At the heart of our village, the Waihī Beach Community Shop has become much more than just a place to pick up a bargain, it’s a reflection of the generosity and resilience that defines Waihī Beach.
Since opening its doors in 2021, the shop has channelled the power of community into meaningful support for local emergency services, raising over $200,000 for Waihī Beach Surf Life Saving, Mayor View Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Waihī Beach Volunteer Coastguard.
Like many great community efforts, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. In July last year, a car crashed through the shop, forcing an unexpected closure for three months. It was a tough setback, but one that revealed the true strength of the community behind it. With the dedication of volunteers and unwavering local support, the shop reopened with a fresh new look and a renewed sense of purpose.
Run by passionate volunteers and supported by the steady flow of donated pre-loved goods, the shop continues to grow year by year. Every item donated, every hour given, and every purchase made contributes directly to the services that help keep our local community safe. The Waihī Beach Community Shop is built on local support, everything it does goes back into the people and services that keep our community running.
If you’d like to join the volunteer team, they’d love to hear from you, get in touch at secretary@waihibeachcommunityshop.co.nz.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 10am–2pm over the winter months, with extended hours in summer, including Sundays. Donations outside these hours can be dropped off with the shop’s neighbours at LJ Hooker, 27 Wilson Road, Waihī Beach.
