Elevating the Everyday

Sunday Homestore brings the pace, vibe and beauty of a Sunday into the everyday.

For Alana and Warren, Sundays are about doing less but living more, and they’ve carefully woven that feeling into every part of the in-store experience – from the curation of products and the fragrance in the air, through to the music playing as you browse. With a focus on style, substance and sustainability, they choose pieces that ‘elevate the everyday’, believing that what we surround ourselves with can make all the difference to how we live and how we feel.

In the following Q&A, Alana and Warren share the inspiration behind Sunday, the makers and brands they love, and the local experiences they’ll always recommend.

“Sundays are our fave day of the week – they’re the days we tend to do less, but live more.”

What inspired your name, Sunday?

“Sundays are our fave day of the week – they’re the days we tend to do less, but live more.

We wanted to bring the pace, vibe and beauty of a Sunday to the in-store experience – from our curation of products and the fragrance in store, through to the music playing as you browse.

As we say: Sunday, Everyday.

What’s one piece in-store right now you think visitors shouldn’t leave without?

“Something from our Sand Ceramic range for sure! Sand from Waihi Beach is folded into the clay, which brings a beautiful light speckle to each piece – such a lovely way to take a bit of the beach home with you! Be it a cheese platter, salad bowl, a sculptural vase, or a handmade coffee mug…”

How do you choose the pieces and makers you feature?

We believe that what we choose to have around us can make all the difference in the world to how we live, and how we feel. So we stock brands and products that ‘elevate the everyday’ – making ordinary routines and rituals more beautiful. First and foremost is, style – aesthetic beauty. We all deserve to have more beauty in our lives, and we’re passionate about good design at Sunday. But beyond style, we look for substance and sustainability – things that are long- lasting and consciously made. We believe in quality over quantity – buying less, but giving yourself the best. We have a focus on New Zealand design at Sunday – we’re lucky to have some truly world-class brands here God’s Own, and many of the New Zealand brands we have on our shelves are internationally-recognised ones.”

How do you hope people feel when they walk into Sunday?

“Relaxed, uplifted or inspired, and always completely welcome.”

What’s something in your home that you bought for yourself from the store and still absolutely love?

“The BAINA towels we use daily in our bathroom (bath towels, hand towels, face cloths and a bath mat – all matching of course!). BAINA is a great example of a New Zealand brand that’s now loved globally. I love the colour and design flair they bring to our bathroom.”

What’s one must-do experience you always recommend to someone visiting Waihi Beach for the first time?

“A walk to Orokawa (take a picnic), or a margarita at The Secret Garden if cocktails are more your speed!”
