Meet the Manager: Beau

Beach Pilates in Waihī Beach offers dynamic, supportive Reformer Pilates classes that build strength, improve flexibility, and inspire a love of movement. At the heart of the studio is Beau, the manager, who keeps everything running smoothly and brings a personal touch to every class! Below, she gives us a peek behind the reformer, sharing her favourite Waihī Beach spots, how she welcomes newcomers, the milestones she’s proud of, and what life is really like running Beach Pilates.

“We know trying something new can be nerve-wracking, but you’ll never know how much fun it can be unless you take the leap and give it a go.”

How do you make visitors or first-timers feel comfortable stepping into a class?

“Everyone is welcome – always. Whether you’re a first-timer, a frequent visitor, or a local regular, we’re thrilled to spend that time with you. Expect a warm smile, plenty of support, and reassurance throughout the class. We know trying something new can be nerve-wracking, but you’ll never know how much fun it can be unless you take the leap and give it a go.”

With the Whangamatā studio now open, how do you feel about the growth of the Beach Pilates community?

“It’s both exciting and humbling to see our Beach Pilates community expand. The Waihī Beach studio has built such a special, supportive environment, and being able to share that same welcoming experience with our neighbours in Whangamatā has been a wonderful next step. We feel incredibly grateful to see the community growing in such a positive way.”

When you’re not teaching or running the studio, what’s your favourite way to move?

“You’ll often find me down at Main End learning to surf or out running with my two dogs – Donny, my energetic golden retriever (short for Donald Duck), and Goose, my loyal cavoodle.”

Is there a milestone or moment that really made you feel proud of how far Beach Pilates has come?

“One of the proudest milestones for Beach Pilates has been witnessing our clients achieve remarkable breakthroughs. We often hear heartfelt stories; like someone being able to tie their shoes for the first time in years, or rediscovering an exercise they thought they’d never do again after an injury. It’s truly inspiring to see our clients not only reach these goals but also find genuine enjoyment in their practice. These moments of triumph remind us how honoured we are to be part of their journey and to contribute to their well-being.”

What is your favourite pilates move?

“I love the reformer as a form of support, resistance, and extension of what you may otherwise get at home or in the gym. Hands in loops, scooters and skates and reverse arm pulls.”

MEET SOME OF THE TEAM

What’s something people might not realise about Beach Pilates or the community you’ve built?

“Many people don’t realise that Beach Pilates is led by a team of three directors, each bringing unique strengths to support our growing community. Craig serves as our managing director and trainer, Lesley is our customer service guru and fellow trainer, and Gayle is our accounting extraordinaire. And then there’s Beau – the glue that holds it all together – who does a bit of everything: teaching, client outreach, emails, calls, procuring studio necessities, and keeping the whole team running smoothly.”

What’s one must-do experience you always recommend to someone visiting Waihi Beach for the first time?

” Of course, there are the classics – Orokawa, the Trig Walk, Shelley Bay – all breathtaking and worth the visit. You could also bike the trail to Bowentown. Personally, I love heading to any of the beach accesses just south of the Yellow Dairy to absorb the beauty of our coastline at sunrise or sunset. Honestly, it’s almost impossible to narrow it down to one must-do!”

Three Words to describe Waihi Beach? – Wholesome, stunning, picturesque.

Favourite Local Business? – Beach Road Deli – we may be biased as they caffeinate us after our classes! The Waihī Beach Community Op Shop (next to LJ Hooker, with fabulous service, right in the main block of shops) is also a wonderful store to visit.
