A roundup of five things made, grown or dreamed up right here in Waihī Beach – because shopping local means keeping it in the village.

1. Slowly Golden surf set – $199, slowlygoldenstore.com. Stephanie Saxton began her entrepreneurial journey here in Waihī Beach, launching her first swimwear brand and building it alongside a deep love of the ocean. As she spent more time in the water and fell in love with surfing, her collections naturally evolved with that lifestyle. This surf set was created in collaboration with photographer Steph Bubble, together they designed something effortless, functional, and true to how they actually live and move between the surf and land. It’s available in three colourways, designed to be simple, flattering, and made for movement.

2. The Sauna Project wool hat – $85, thesaunaproject.co.nz/our-products/p/sauna-hat. Stay cool and comfy while you soak up the benefits of sauna. A sauna hat helps regulate body temperature and calm the nervous system for a deeper, more restorative sweat. These are designed and made locally in Athenree from 100% wool, free from chemical processing.

3. Flock rain jackets – RRP $189, flockbeachstuff.co.nz. Flock is a small, locally owned business based in Waihī Beach. Their rain jackets were born from a desire to find something both windproof and waterproof, without compromising on quality or style. Frustrated by the abundance of plain black options, they set out to create something more vibrant, incorporating signature vintage prints, and made using recycled materials.

4. Gurnards coffee – $34 per bag (500g whole beans), gurnards.co.nz. Gurnards is a coastal coffee brand built for early starts, salty air, and the people who are always first out, named after a fish that founder Jesse famously mispronounced after one too many late nights and not enough coffee. Roasted for real lifestyles: Dawn Patrol for a smooth morning brew, Bait & Brew for the early fish crew, The Shaka Shot for the adventure junkies, and Flat Whitecaps inspired by New Zealand’s iconic flat white. Local Waihī/Waihī Beach delivery from Jesse himself.

5. Sunday Homestore ceramics – 29 Wilson Road, or sundayhomestore.co.nz. For over nine years, Sunday has collaborated with New Zealand potters to create its beloved ceramics range, with sand from Waihī Beach hand-folded into the clay to create a distinctive natural speckle. The collection includes serving platters, salad bowls, mugs and more, timeless pieces that each carry a little of Waihī Beach within them.
