Getting to Waihi Beach is easy, it’s leaving that’s the hard part!

You won’t find one set of traffic lights in Waihi Beach! Here you can walk, bike and if you feel the need, drive without getting stuck in traffic. The same goes for our beautiful main beach, with 9 kilometres of coastline, you won’t find yourself battling for space – there’s plenty of room for everyone!

Located in the bountiful Western Bay of Plenty and gateway to the Coromandel, Waihi Beach is just 2 hours drive from Auckland, 1.5 hours from Coromandel Hotspot Hahei, and 50 minutes from Tauranga. A great place to base yourself for exploring east coast beaches . Planning to fly in? Tauranga is our nearest domestic airport, while Auckland is the closest option for international arrivals.

From Waihi Beach you can also journey north to visit Whangamata (40min) and Tairua (1 hr). Travel west to visit Paeroa (30 mins), Matamata (1hr 10mins) and Hamilton (1.5hrs). Travel south to Mount Maunganui (1hr) and Papamoa (1hr 10mins).

The nearby towns of Waihi (10 mins) and Katikati (15 mins) are closest for larger supermarket shopping and of course, more exploration of our beautiful area.

National bus services also service Katikati and Waihi townships from/to Tauranga, Auckland and Hamilton. A semi-regular bus service also travels from Waihi Beach to Tauranga via the Bayhopper service.
